GUARD ONLINE UPDATE
A
student services team composed of advisors from participating institutions and
staff members from the Office of the Chancellor have been assisting soldiers in
selecting online courses that can help them progress toward their program or
degree goals. Staff are assisting solders being deployed to Kosovo at Camp
Ripley from October 4-9, 2003. Improvements have been underway to make textbooks
and materials available more easily from campus bookstores and also to increase
the range of course offerings, including more upper division and graduate
courses. Registration for the second

ART, MUSIC AND THEATRE DEPARTMENT/DISCIPLINE MEETING
A meeting for the art, music and theater disciplines will be held on October
10, 2003 at the University of Minnesota Earle Brown Center. This meeting will
involve addressing a draft department/discipline curricular issue work plan and
other agenda items that have been identified by a faculty facilitator and a
planning group meeting on August 13, 2003 (music and theater) and September 24,
2003 (art). Information on these three disciplines may be found at http://www.mntransfer.org/Councils/Councils.html
A faculty representative from each Minnesota State College and University art,
music and theater department/discipline is encouraged to attend the October 10,
2003 meeting. The selection of the representative was previously conducted last
spring by IFO and MSCF appointment procedures. Any other faculty who wish to
represent their college at this meeting (limit of one per college and
university), need to obtain designation through the normal IFO and MSCF
procedures.
The Program Collaboration and Transfer team has developed a listserve for each department/discipline so meeting attendees and others may articulate their issues, suggested resolutions, etc. Faculty are encouraged to subscribe to the listserve in their department/discipline as the lead faculty facilitators wish to use this as a means to communicate with their peers. To subscribe to the listserve of interest to you, point your web browser to http://www.mntransfer.org/MnTC/listserveinfo.html. The listserves are open so anyone may visit them as appropriate.
Please assist in distributing this information to your colleagues through regular communication channels. If you have any questions, please contact: Jerry Johnson at 651-649-5987, jerry.johnson@so.mnscu.edu or Linda Lade at 651-649-5743, linda.lade@so.mnscu.edu
WHAT’S NEW WITH TRANSFER
For additional and complete information, go to: http://www.mntransfer.org/whatsnew.html
Fall 2003 Transfer Specialists’ Conference – Thursday, November 6,
Registrar Position Open at
UND has scheduled a one-day registration/orientation event for admitted
transfer students entering fall of 2004. The event, called Getting Started,
will be held on Saturday, April 3, 2004. One exciting feature of the program is
that attending transfer students will be registering for courses prior to all
other current UND students. Transfer students must apply by February, 2004 to
participate. Call 1-800 CALL UND, Ext 2117, or (701) 777-2117.
The way UND accepts and records transfer credits changed for students who
matriculated to UND beginning fall of 2003. The new policy is as follows:
"In general, all college-level credit attempted, excluding withdrawals, at
a regionally accredited institution of higher education, will be posted in
transfer by UND." Courses that have been rejected in the past due to their
technical nature or due to their lack of applicability to UND programs will l
now be accepted as general elective credits, regardless of grade earned. Grades
of "D" or "F," therefore, will become a part of each
transfer student's permanent academic record at UND. However, UND will continue
to NOT accept remedial or preparatory courses, credit for life experiences,
other institutions' credit by examination, or non-degree continuing education
courses.
UND has also elected to begin accepting some forms of military credit in transfer. All credits from the Community College of the Air Force will be accepted. Current ACE guidelines will be used in evaluating credit earned through Army, Navy and Marine programs. Students must provide official copies of the military transcript.
UND recently approved to accept the MnTransfer Curriculum as equivalent to
UND's general education requirements. Students currently taking coursework from
a MnSCU institution or a student who completed the MnTC during or after the
fall of 2001 will fulfill UND's general education requirement. For UND's
purposes, the posting of the BA, BS or AA degree on a transcript or a letter
from the MnSCU institution's Office of the Registrar will suffice for proof of
program completion.
