Dr. Michael Murphy

Dr. Michael Murphy joined Minnesota State Colleges & Universities in July 1999. As Associate Vice Chancellor he coordinates the system's response to workforce and ecnomic development issues and partnership opportunities.
Dr. Murphy oversees system initiatives for all of Strategic Partnerships & Workforce Development, which includes:

customized training,
-
the biosciences,
-
the health education industry partnership (HEIP),
-
the Fire Safety/Emergency Management Services, Hazardous Waste & Anti-Terrorism Training Center,
-
manufacturing,
-
ISEEK (an inter-agency Internet system for education and employment)
-
and CareerOneStop (COS) -- a federal Department of Labor website for Education & Training Administration in partnership with the Minnesota Department of Employment & Economic Development.
In addition, Dr. Murphy represents Chancellor McCormick on the Governor's Workforce Development Council and serves on the advisory board for MnOnline.
Over the past 2 years, Dr. Murphy has been involved with both the McKnight and Blandin Foundations and system sponsored activities that work towards developing the Regional Economic Development (RED) Groups, it's initiatives and special projects such as the Itasca Project. In the Spring of 2005, Murphy's work for the Itasca Project shifted in from the Task Force on Economic Disparities among Races in the Twin Cities to the Task Force on Small Business Development.
A native New Yorker, Murphy received his Master's and Doctorate degrees from the University of Minnesota in American Studies. From 1996-97 he was "scholar in residence" at the University of Ulster's Jordanstown campus in Belfast, Northern Ireland, where he and his wife have a home.
